Hutchison Max Telecom today announced that on 31 March 2000, they have served notice to the Department of Telecom in Delhi advising the surrender of their Radio Paging License. In compliance with the terms of the agreement, they will continue to provide services to customers until 31 March 2001,and not after this date.
The Paging industry has been incurring heavy losses since inception in 1994. This has been due to various factors, both regulatory and market related. Despite various attempts by individual organizations and the industry collectively, the situation has not improved.
Owing to these unfavorable circumstances, Hutchison Max Telecom has had no option but to serve the notice of closure for its Paging operations. The company is in touch with other Paging operators to facilitate the smooth transfer of its customers to an alternate Paging service in the most convenient manner possible.
A Company official said, " Hutchison Max Telecom continues to be committed to the growth of the Telecom industry in India. This decision was taken after months of deliberation, and looking for alternative solutions. It is a specific decision based on a specific situation in this sector and in no ways reflects the company's overall commitment to further investment in India. And as always, we take our commitments to customers, vendors and staff seriously, and will fulfill them professionally."
