London, October 16 October 2000 - Hutchison 3G UK Holdings Limited (Hutchison 3G), the holder of the UK's largest 3G licence which will launch its service in mid-2002, today announced the appointment of Dr. Colin Tucker as Managing Director.
Dr. Tucker was previously Chief Operating Officer and Group Director, International Operations at Orange plc and has over twenty years experience in the telecoms sector, having overseen Orange's international operations since 1998.
Commenting on Dr. Tucker's appointment Canning Fok, Group Managing Director of Hutchison Whampoa Limited remarked: "This appointment underlines the importance of the UK within our pan-European strategy. We are extremely pleased to have Colin join Hutchison 3G. I have worked closely with him for many years and greatly respect his management and brand building abilities."

Hutchison 3G UK Holdings Limited ("Hutchison 3G")holds license "A", from the UMTS auction held by the UK government in April 2000. Licence "A" was the largest block of spectrum auctioned in the UK, it was set-aside for a new entrant to the market. The licence consists of 15mhz of paired spectrum, and 5mhz of unpaired spectrum.
Hutchison Whampoa Limited holds a 65 per cent stake in Hutchison 3G(including the 6.5 per cent allocated for the remaining option of Telesystem International Wireless Inc. ("TIW"). The other major shareholders are NTT DoCoMo (20 per cent) KPN Mobile (15 per cent).
NTT DoCoMo, KPN Mobile and Hutchison Whampoa together, can generate significant economies of scale in product development, network procurement and construction as well as content and other supplier relationships. This will provide enhanced service offering and service innovation for the customers.
