Shanghai Container Terminals (SCT) set a new daily productivity record when it handled a volume of 10,982 TEU.
This was the second record set by SCT in August. The daily productivity record set on 27 August came just after the first record for the month, when SCT handled 10,962 TEU on 13 August.
With continued increase in container trade volumes which has resulted in SCT achieving unprecedented growth in productivity, Henry Wah, General Manager - SCT, is delighted with the new productivity record. "At SCT, we are constantly striving to increase productivity and efficiency in every aspect of our operation and maintain our competitive edge in the industry."
SCT is jointly invested by Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH) and Shanghai Port Authority. In 1999, SCT achieved an annual container throughput of 2.595 million TEU, up 28% from the previous year. This achievement allowed Shanghai Port to rank 7th among all container ports around the world.
As a timely move that tied in with the navigation channel restoration project at the fairway of the Yangtze River, SCT also embarked on the Baoshan Terminal conversion project, which is scheduled for completion at the end of 2000. These improvements, coupled with the installation of post-Panamax handling equipment, will greatly enhance the competitiveness of Shanghai Port.
