in second project to aid Sichuan
(Hong Kong, 19 May 2008) Embarking on a second project to aid victims of the Sichuan earthquake, the Li Ka Shing Foundation, Cheung Kong (Holdings) Limited and Hutchison Whampoa Limited today announced a donation of RMB 100 million to establish an education fund in collaboration with the Ministry of Education to provide financial aid for students (from primary to tertiary) affected by the earthquake.
In the new round of contributions, the Foundation will contribute RMB 40 million, while Cheung Kong and Hutchison Whampoa will each contribute RMB 30 million. The Ministry of Education will coordinate the financial aid scheme which will help pay for school fees and living allowances.
Last Tuesday, the day following the earthquake, Mr. Li had made a contribution of RMB 30 million from the Just In Time Fund, and the Cheung Kong and Hutchison Whampoa Groups added another HK$5 million.
