News Release
Scotts Valley, Calif. -- October 18, 2002 -- Starfish Software, a leading provider of end-to-end infrastructure solutions for the wireless world, announced today that it has been selected by H3G to implement a solution that will enable over-the-air synchronization of consumer and corporate enterprise data. The solution will initially be deployed in Italy and then in other markets where Hutchison Whampoa has 3G interests.
In addition to providing consumers with the ability to use over-the-air high-speed wireless networks to access personal data, the TrueSync Server provides access to corporate data through company servers - "must-have" capabilities for mobile enterprise users. H3G will also be able to extend their services with the Starfish TrueSync Plus product, to include tethered synchronization options for PDAs and Pocket PC devices. Based on an open architecture and SyncML-compliant technology, TrueSync ensures that H3G's data synchronization services will easily support a wide variety of SyncML compliant handsets and enable the creation of new mobile data services.
"The agreement with Starfish is another step in our strategy to carry out high-quality infrastructures and technological platforms. It is also the first of its kind in the world. Our customers will be able to synchronize their personal data - such as their calendar, address book and list of activities - with the dedicated server, pc, pda, and of course UMTS handset: a necessary service for those who are always on the move," commented H3G's CEO, Bob Fuller.
"We are pleased that H3G has selected TrueSync to power over-the-air synchronization services for their customers throughout the world," said Ms. Gregg Armstrong, president and CEO of Starfish Software. "H3G, with the other 3G companies controlled by the Hutchison Group, is out to establish itself as the leading Third Generation services provider, and Starfish is pleased to play a key role in its infrastructure and strategy."
About H3G
Upon obtaining a UMTS license in Italy in November 2000, with an offer of 3,253 million Euro, H3G is now aiming at becoming the first mobile video company of the Italian market. Hutchison Whampoa is the majority shareholder with 88.2% of the corporate capital, and is joined by first-rate Italian and international players in telecommunications, Internet and new media, publishing and banking, like S. Paolo Imi, CIR, HDP, BMI, Gemina and Tiscali.
3 is the global name for Hutchison Whampoa's third-generation services. The Group holds 3G licences in Australia, Austria, Denmark, Hong Kong, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Sweden and the UK.
The name should always appear as '3', with the exception of website addresses, where it is written as a word in the relevant language.
3G is a convergence of media, information and communication which enables access to a range of services on the move. The 3G standard (agreed throughout Europe, Japan, China, and the rest of Asia) is formally known as UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System). It represents a global standard for third-generation communication systems and is at the heart of the H3G initiative.
