In response to several media reports regarding the construction of the HK-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge ("the Bridge"), which carry some misleading information, Hutchison Whampoa (HWL) would like to make the following clarification:

We wish to reiterate that the stance of our Chairman Li Ka-shing and the Group is not against building the Bridge.

We have previously raised concerns about how the capital investment should be funded and questioned the wisdom of using Hong Kong taxpayers' money to build the Bridge. In fact, we have only made strong objections to any suggestions that the construction of the Bridge be subsidized by the government by providing premium-free land for the development of new container terminals, and thereby sacrificing the interest of the existing operators.

Once again, we reiterate we are not opposed to the private sector funding of the Bridge's construction.
